Mario Bellini (*1935, Mailand) is an Italian designer and architect. The MoMA organized an exhibition for him in 1987: “Mario Bellini: designer“. Bellini worked as a consultant for Olivetti from 1962 to 1992. [1] The last projects he worked on for Olivetti was the typewriter ET1250 and the laptop Quaderno.
Bellini stated that “[his] collaboration with Olivetti has never been full time, but always more of a series of consultancy periods of various lengths.
– I have never been sole responsible of design in Olivetti, because on one side I did not have a full time collaboration, on the other I would alternate in parallel with Ettore Sottsass (we would alternate leading the departments consumer and systems)
– There has never been a period that I have been the sole person in charge of all the design of the Olivetti production, and I have never designed a full series of models.
– The machines of series ET and ETV have not all been designed by me.“
He designed typewriters, calculators and other bureau machines and even the ribbon housings. The following posts collects some of his typewriter designs for Olivetti. You probably think some pictures are twice, but there is always a little difference.
